Iceland's participation in this partnership started in 1993. The instruments' use is subject to copyright, and the Ministry of Health has made an agreement with interRAI authorizing Stiki to use RAI in this new information system.
Under a Government Regulation, the health and circumstances of service recipients must be assessed annually using the RAI instruments.
The RAI Nursing Home system is centrally hosted at Stiki, and serves residential and nursing homes all around Iceland. The Directorate of Health has charge of access control and the system's data, and the Ministry of Health and Social Security uses the system to assess the cost of servising the homes.
